Keeping your home protected

Keeping your home protected

There are so many ways that you can secure and protect your home so we thought why not create a useful guide to keeping your home protected.

1.Always lock your door

Don’t just let a burglar walk straight through your front door. With 34% of thieves strolling through the front door, it’s a good habit to lock your door as soon as you enter or exit. Test your door frames making sure they are strong and the hinges can’t be easily kicked through. If your door has a letterbox make sure that a person can’t reach through and unlock the door.

Top Tip: If you lose your keys always replace your locks even if you have space keys. You never know where the lost set will end up and you don’t want strangers walking around with keys to your home.

Quick ways to secure your door:

  • Install a deadbolt
  • Installing a locking chain
  • Get a video doorbell

2. Always lock the windows.

Another common entry point for burglars is windows. Always back sure you securely close and lock your windows especially those ground floor ones when you leave the house or go to bed. We know that when summer comes it can be nice to feel the breeze but its not worth your home being burgled.

Ideas to improve your window security:

  • Add window bars
  • Make sure the glass is strong
  • Install a window or glass break sensor
  • Grow plants underneath your windows

3. Light it up

Burglars and thieves and vandals like to operate in secret so they minimise their chance of being caught so by adding outdoor lighting you are decreasing your chance of a break-in. Also, it’s helpful for those late-night trips to the bins.

Ideas for outdoor lighting:

  • motion activated lights
  • put your lights on a timer

4. Set up a security system

Every home should have some form of a security system, and with so many to choose from we guarantee an option that will suit your home and budget.
