Protect your outbuildings against theft
The most commonly stolen items from outbuildings
- Bikes
- Lawn Mowers / Other garden tools
- Power Tools
- Sports Equipment
What do you keep in your shed or garage? Did you know that most sheds/garages have an average value of £600? Not only that but the tools they steal might help them to access your home. Look at your shed or garage, is the padlock old and worn? Are the hinges easy to remove? If so maybe it’s worth investing in a new outbuilding. Maybe it’s in good condition but that doesn’t mean that a thief wouldn’t break-in. To protect your outbuildings against theft follow these top tips.
Hide it
To prevent theft from your outbuilding make sure that all valuables are hidden away and out of sight. You might want to consider curtains in the windows or just pop on old sheet over the top of your lawnmower.
Lock it
In addition to keeping the outbuilding locked you may want to chain or lockdown expensive items such as bikes and power tools. Bike locks and stands are an easy purchase but may end up saving you a lot of money in the long run. If you have a garden gate, keep it locked as open gates mean that a burglar can access your home much easier without being seen by you or your neighbours.
Light it
Install a security light outside of your home in your driveway or by your outbuilding so that an intruder can’t approach without being seen.
Alarm it
If you have valuable items in your outbuilding then consider a security system. Our perimeter alarm systems are the ideal choice as they protect your whole property including any outbuildings. And if you already have a house alarm installed, then consider extending the system into the shed or garage.
